“As far as being a manager, you look at the pieces you have every day,” Girardi said. “I think the trickiest part for me is the order you put them because you don’t have a lot of experience with them and you don’t want to give them too much too early, but they have a chance to shine.”

He said later: “We saw a lot of talent in spring training when those guys would play, when they would start games or would come in in the second half. I think them being a big part of our success in spring training probably helped them in this situation.”
