Tunisian player Ons Jabeur reaches milestone at French Open

PARIS — It was a day of reaching milestones for Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who as a lucky loser into the women’s French Open main draw, became the first Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam third round.

The 22-year-old Jabeur, playing a top-10 player for only the second time in her career, posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over sixth seed Dominka Cibulkova of Slovakia on Wednesday. As a lucky loser, she lost in the qualifying draw but was the next player in line for a main draw slot when another player withdrew.

“Actually, it was no pressure for me,” said Jabeur, flashing a smile that showed off colorless braces on her teeth. “Every time I play a player, like, better ranked than me, especially top 10, there is no pressure. So it was unbelievable match for me.”
