Toronto FC won the Canadian Championship and earned a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League in dramatic fashion Tuesday night in Toronto.
Sebastian Giovinco scored the go-ahead goal in a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact in the 95th minute that sent the BMO Field crowd of 26,000-plus into an absolute frenzy
Toronto FC and Montreal had played to a 1-1 tie in the first leg of the Canadian Championship in Montreal last week.
That stoppage-time goal was Giovinco’s second of the game. Giovinco, who is possibly Major League Soccer’s best player, set up his own heroics in the 53rd minute when his goal answered that of Montreal’s Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla from the 36th minute to even the score.
