Saints' Nick Fairley to miss 2017 season after heart issue lands him on reserve/NFI list

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley will miss the entire 2017 season after consultation with several doctors about the lineman’s heart condition led the team to place him on the reserve/non-football illness list Monday.

Fairley missed all of New Orleans’ offseason workout program as he dealt with the issue, which is considered to be potentially career-threatening.

The reserve designation of the NFI list means he can’t be activated this year.

Fairley’s heart issues date back to his physical exam from the 2011 NFL scouting combine, when the condition was uncovered. But it’s never cost him time during a career split between the Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams and Saints.
