Ryan Getzlaf needs appendectomy, returns to Anaheim

7:41 p.m. EDT October 27, 2015

Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf has left the team’s road trip and returned to Anaheim to have a non-emergency appendectomy, according to the organization. He’ll miss 4-12 days of game action.

In a statement, the Ducks said the issue has been bothering Getzlaf intermittently for six weeks.

The Ducks are set to face the Dallas Stars Tuesday in Dallas.

Through the first eight games of the season, Getzlaf, 30, has no goals, one assist and is minus-five. Anaheim has struggled mightily out of the gate, sitting at 1-5-2 after losing in overtime to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

Anaheim will be in St. Louis on Thursday to play the Blues.
