Rory McIlroy's message for Tiger Woods

In a surprisingly grim press conference in the Bahamas Tuesday, Tiger Woods seemed to foreshadow his eventual retirement from the game of golf, stating that he’s fully satisfied with his career accomplishments and that any more victories are simply “gravy” at this point. Woods, who hasn’t won a tournament since 2013 and hasn’t won a major since 2008, said there was no timetable for his return from a third back surgery.

Via USA TODAY Sports:

“For my 20 years out here I think I’ve achieved a lot, and if that’s all it entails, then I’ve had a pretty good run. But I’m hoping that’s not it. I’m hoping that I can get back out here and compete against these guys. I really do miss it. I miss being out here with the boys and mixing it up with them and see who can win the event. That’s fun…. But if that’s not the case anymore, then I’ll find other avenues.”

Hours after Woods’ press conference, Rory McIlroy wished his “idol” a speedy recovery on Instagram.

Nike’s beautiful tribute to Tiger’s career and his impact on McIlroy from earlier this year is even more powerful today.
