The Toronto Raptors traded forward DeMarre Carroll and two draft picks to the Brooklyn Nets for center Justin Hamilton, a person familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.
Nets general manager Sean Marks is trying to recoup assets in the form of draft picks and young talent, and he’s doing a nice job. He acquired guard De’Angelo Russell in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers and now gets a lottery-protected first-round pick in 2018 and second-round pick in 2018.
In Carroll, the Nets get a veteran who has the ability to play defense and shoot three-pointers. However, after signing a four-year, $58 million deal with the Raptors during free agency in 2015, Carroll was not the same player he was in previous seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. A lingering knee injury in 2015-16 didn’t help.
