Golf tournaments this time of year are great. They’re more laid back because there aren’t any majors coming up, and they’re often located in interesting places that don’t usually host tournaments.
There’s little incentive for the big guns to play, but the events usually get around this by offering them big appearance fees. The event wants to get its money’s worth, though, so before the tournament they usually make the big-names take part in a zany photo-op that’ll attract attention. It works quite well.
Rory McIlroy took part in the latest one for the European Tour’s Turkish Airlines Open on Wednesday, challenging fellow golfer Charl Schwartzel in a cook-off.
And fun was had by all.
