Former Washington point guard Markelle Fultz, widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in next month’s NBA draft, said he’s been in contact with Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge multiple times and believes he would “fit in well” with the storied franchise.
“I want to be the No. 1 pick really bad,” Fultz told ESPN. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid.”
The Celtics are in an unusual situation after bowing out of the Eastern Conference finals where they can draft a dynamic player like the 6-4 Fultz, who plays point guard. All-Star Isaiah Thomas, who has one year left on his contract with the Celtics and is coming off an electrifying season, also plays point guard. But Fultz said that wouldn’t be a problem and thinks he and Thomas would “be great together.” Thomas also went to Washington, which previously fueled a relationship between the two.
