Carmelo Anthony’s wife, La La Anthony, said on The Wendy Williams Show Tuesday that her husband’s priority in gauging his NBA future hinges around remaining close to their 10-year-old son, Kiyan.
“The most important thing with that is just to stay close to Kiyan,” La La Anthony said on the show in response to questioning of whether the New York Knicks’ star forward will be traded or not. “That’s my priority, that’s his priority. So wherever he ends up, of course we want him to be happy.”
Knicks president Phil Jackson has been open about his preference to trade Anthony this offseason. ESPN reports that Anthony would indeed prefer to stay in New York, but there is hope the Knicks will engage in talks for a buyout of his contract.
A buyout would make Anthony, who has a no-trade clause on his contract and would have to agree to waive it prior to completion of any trade, a prime candidate to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers to play alongside friend and Team USA teammate LeBron James.
