A few days after Gordon Hayward announced that he’ll be leaving the Utah Jazz to go play for the Boston Celtics, the Jazz purchased a full-page ad to thank him in the Salt Lake Tribune.
It’s a classy move. The message says:
“Thank you, Gordon.
“For always giving us your best. We’ve enjoyed the game-winning shots and watching you become an NBA All-Star, and we’re proud of your growth as a husband, father and teammate.
“We wish you and your family happiness and success as you move on with your career.
The Miller Family and Utah Jazz”
Hayward’s decision to leave has been tough for Jazz fans, but it’s nice to see the franchise make a gesture like this rather than, uh, stoop to a lower level like some other teams have done after big players go elsewhere.
Hayward played on the Jazz for seven seasons after being selected No. 9 by the team in the 2010 NBA draft. He was named an All-Star for the first time this past season.
